You’ll find this spa located behind vast, carved, turquoise doors within the palatial Jumeirah Zabeel Saray and it offers all the traditional and not-so-traditional treatments imaginable. There are six types of hammams (including coffee, ice and gold varieties) no less than seven types of facials (rain forest renew, anti-aging, whitening to name a few), luxurious couples’ treatments and if an hour isn’t long enough then how about a day spa ritual? You name it, the Talise Ottoman Spa has it.
- Award winning spa
Since opening in 2010, the spa has won multiple awards including ‘UAE’s Leading Spa Resort’ three years running in the World Travel Awards; ‘Best Luxury Hotel Spa’ in the Luxury Spa Awards and ‘Best Spa’ category in the Condé Nast Traveller Middle East Readers’ Choice Awards 2013. The list goes on and not without very good reason. Put quite simply, the Talise Ottoman Spa is spectacular. Check out a 360 degree view here
2. Simply amazing facilities to explore
One of the many great benefits is the fact you’re free to explore the facilities before and after your treatment. If you have the time, make the most of it and do not miss the incredible indoor salt water thallasotherapy swimming pool. Admire the marble arch ways and interior design, take a dip in the pristine waters or wrap up in your robe, sink into the comfy day beds while the tranquil surroundings soothe your soul. The other facilities are equally as impressive. There are 42 treatment rooms including eleven private rooms, two Thai massage suites and a double treatment suite (with private sauna, soak tub, shower and changing room.) There’s a relaxation lounge, sauna and steam rooms, a specialised slimming room, four hydrotherapy rooms (with a vichy shower), hydrotherapy tubs, a flotation bed, flotation tanks, four outdoor cabanas and wait for it, yes there’s even a snow room.
3. Try a traditional hammam
In keeping with Turkish traditions, the hammam is a very sociable and communal environment however there are completely separate areas for men and women. Stepping into the steam room was an experience in itself and I couldn’t help but be amazed by its high domed ceilings, basins and beautiful marble architecture. I reclined on the heated central slab or göbektaşı and was then covered from head-to-toe in foam from olive oil soap. My therapist, equipped with a kese mitt (at times a little abrasive but it didn’t hurt) and bowls of warm water, then proceeded to wash, scrub and exfoliate to remove any dry and dead skin. While it wasn’t quite as relaxing as a massage, it was equally rewarding, albeit in a very different way. If you’re keen to try something new then this is definitely one for your list and it will leave your skin positively glowing. Afterwards, you can roam around the facilities as I did while trying to locate my friend. We soon found one another in the relaxation area, where we enjoyed a fresh juice and selection of energy boosting dates.
4.The 24-carat gold chain mail facial
Yes you heard right. A 24-carat gold chain mail facial. In association with Margy’s Monte Carlo, renowned for developing some of the world’s most exclusive skin care products, this is the ultimate extravagance, indulgence, call it what you will. The treatment costs AED 25,000 ($6,800) but there’s a good reason, in fact, there’s good scientific reason. According to Margy, ‘a wrinkle is no more, no less, than a lack of collagen in the skin.’ And this regal experience is said to slow down collagen depletion and the breakdown of elastin, resulting in younger looking skin. Gold apparently conducts ions which stimulate cellular growth of the basal layer and regenerates firm skin cells to provide a tightening effect. Anyone who indulges in this treatment can also enjoy an Arabian gold hammam; a rose bliss and argan oil massage followed by a luxurious skin softening milk and rose oil Jacuzzi bath. The experience includes a caviar lunch held within the private spa suite, followed by a premium gift bag by Margy’s on departure.
5. Talise Couples Spa
Or perhaps you’re looking for a romantic treat? Then book into the iklik hammam. This is a spa within a spa, perfect for couples. Treatments here are inspired by ancient healing philosophies of the Ottomans and are combined with the latest technology and luxury. The spa comprises two spacious and all-inclusive treatment suites for couples, saunas, whirlpools, showers, changing areas, a majlis, Jacuzzis, steam baths and relaxation lounges. Try the couple’s side-by-side massage or the romance 1001 roses treatment. This two-hour pampering session starts with a skin softening milk Jacuzzi (while you can both enjoy the finest bubbly and fresh strawberries), then it’s onto the sauna and relaxation room before a 60-minute aromatherapy massage – the ultimate indulgence for two.
