Shimmers: A Greek Tavern on the shores of Dubai

The perfect weather for al fresco dining in Dubai has arrived and there’s no better place to enjoy it than Shimmers. This newly refurbished Greek Tavern sits on Madinat Jumeirah’s private beach – one of the best locations in Dubai which offers spectacular views of Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.

The occasion: A catch up with the girls over tasty tapas, date night or an evening out to wow your visitors, this place will not disappoint.

The atmosphere: Casual and chic with a rustic / beach-house feel. Think white washed woods, turquoise  shades, relaxed seating on the sand and traditional Greek music playing away in the background. Enjoy the refreshing sea breeze and amazing sunset views as you take a seat on the terrace or sink into the comfortable bean bag cushions and dine from low tables on the beach with your toes in the sand.

The menu: Expect fresh Mediterranean cuisine masterminded by Greek Chef Yiannis Katsikas. The menu (which is divided into ‘Sharing,’ ‘From the Coals,’ ‘From the Oven,’ or ‘From the Casserole’) comprises classic dishes inspired by the Chef Yiannis’ mother’s authentic recipes. For dining tapas style try Tyrokaftrei, a traditional spicy feta cheese dip served with freshly baked pita bread; zucchini kefta or a taste of the sea with tender chargrilled octopus. Dishes from the garden include slow roasted beetroot salad and the “real” Greek salad. Delicious mains include lamb chops and briam – a delicious Greek vegetable bake, straight from the oven; traditional lamb and beef mousakka or just go all out and devour a rib eye steak. Stroll along the promenade afterwards or take a buggy and explore Madinat Jumeirah.

Shimmers at Jumeirah Mina A’Salam is open daily for lunch from 12 – 5 pm, for dinner from 7 – 11:30pm and the lounge is open from 12 pm – 1:30 am.
