The red carpet at the Dubai International Film Festival has been graced by legends of the film world over the past 14 years since the Festival’s launch – and this year is no exception!
The 2017 Festival from 6-13 December will once again see Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett glide through a crowd of flashing photographers and fans as she makes her way through to the Madinat Jumeirah’s lavish purpose-built velvet clad cinema. This will be her third year at the Festival, fulfilling her role as judge for the esteemed IWC Filmmaker Award.
International talent flying into Dubai this December includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Vanessa Williams, Alesha Dixon, David Harbour. And from the Arab world, Jumeirah welcomes Wahid Hamed, Youssra, Nilly Karim, Mona Wassef, Nadine Njeim, Aida Riad.
Also among the great and the good at this year’s Festival is Sir Patrick Stewart OBE. This legendary British actor will be presented with an Honorary Award, celebrating his success enjoyed during a career spanning six decades. With roles on stage, television and film, he is a multiple Olivier, Golden Globe, Emmy, Screen Actors Guild and Saturn Award nominee. His many roles include Star Trek: The Next Generation and X-Men film series, including his latest critically acclaimed performance as Professor Xavier in James Mangold’s Logan.
Sir Patrick will also be revealing the ups and downs of his career during an insightful In Conversation event on Friday 8 December at the beautiful Madinat Souk Theatre. As a festival that honours regional film as well as from Hollywood and Bollywood, Honorary Awards will also be handed to illustrious Egyptian writer Wahid Hamed, and to acclaimed Indian actor Irrfan Khan, of Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi and most recently The Song of Scorpions which screens at DIFF 17.
